Just my opinion: Simplified Chinese or 中文简体 is used in China. Traditional Chinese or 中文繁体 is used in Taiwan. Also, there are more strokes when writing some characters in Traditional Chinese. For example, 身体 (Simplified Chinese) and 身體 (Traditional Chinese). The character 身 is both the same in Simplified and Traditional Chinese but 体 has less strokes and easier to write compared to Traditional Chinese. But the meaning is the same - 身体 means Body. Hope the above help.

Simplified Chinese (简体中文)is used in China, and the words are simplified from Traditional Chinese at recent years. They ruin the constitution of making a Chinese word, which require symmetry, harmony, and meaningful.
Traditional Chinese has been used over 3000 years in Chinese history.
Every word has its only standard for appearance. For example, 爱(Simplified Chinese) and 愛(Traditional Chinese). Although Simplified Chinese has less strokes and easier to write compared to Traditional Chinese, but the word lost its original meaning. The word 愛 refers to"love". If we are going to love somebody, we use our heart to love. However, Simplified Chinese remove the"心(heart)" in the word 愛. But heart is the compartment of love! Although the meaning of two words is the same - 愛/爱means love.
繁體中文 is used in Taiwan, Hong Kong. Although there are more strokes when writing some characters in Traditional Chinese, you can learn the true quintessence of Chinese. Also, you can easily recognize Simplified Chinese after learning Traditional Chinese, but hard to do the reverse one. Hope it will help you.

For another example. The word "體" lost it meaning after simplified to 体. 體/体 means Body. There are bones(骨) supporting body at left, a head(曲)and trunk(豆) at right in 體. But in 体, there are a person(亻) and a tree(本). Why are a person and a tree? Nobody knows. In my opinion, understand how the word comes from may help a lot whenever encountering a new word. Of course we natives may encounter some difficult words that we are not familiar with, we can try to understand what meaning the word convey.

@shuyinchen2015 I don't think so. Probably, you mean people from mainland use simplified Chinese, while people from Taiwan and Hong Kong use transitional Chinese. It has nothing to do with dialects. To be honest, modern Chinese is a more accurate term, compared to 'simplified chinese'. The only difference is that modern Chinese has less strokes than traditional Chinese. And they still share similar forms.
