Sooo a few weeks ago I was smelling this funny what seemed to be electrical burning or overheating and could not for the life of me find out what it was. Had my father come by check the circuits of our condo the whole 9.
So I bought a topping shelf today for my E30 and Atom. When I plugged the E30 back in I got a E-d message on the screen, looked it up, means product failure. When I turned the DAC around to look at the DC input, I could instantly smell that it was cooked. Have had the same exact power usb to it. I used an Apple charger block to charge the E30 since it only gives off 5V anyway. Been working mint for a year and now all of a sudden it just shits the bed.
I think its safe to say that I will be purchasing from JDS or Schiit from now on, I really loved this DAC too with the 4493 chip but now Im scared to even have another topping product god for bid it starts a fire. Prolly far fetched but can still happen. Not really sure where to go from here. I may snag the Atom DAC but I have a Magni 3+ coming in and may just upgrade to Asgard 3. Obviously the Modi 3 would be an option but only has the 4490 chip in it.
Bummed to say the least
Obviously the Modi 3 would be an option but only has the 4490 chip in it.
???
The Modi 3+ measure so accurate it would be indistinguishable from the E30 in a properly volume leveled double blind test. Be wary of personal testimonials that say they sound different. Read this to learn more

Modi 3+ measures lower than the E30 but prolly Built better honestly
SMSL Sanskrit 10th mk2. Virtually the same dac, trades blows. Powered by a single micro usb for power and data so its more convenient. Also has supplemental power if you want. I owned it and was pretty satisfied
Liquid spark dac, schiit modius have the 4493 in it also
After reading multiple threads about DACs that provide both the power and data via a single USB port, it is concluded it is not as clean as a dedicated DC supply. The liquid spark dac looks great though. Measures better than the topping and comes with a dedicated DC adapter and wall wart. Much preferred.
